Beauty: Nars and Apocalips

I love red lips, but something that I can't always decide upon is matte or shiny. Matte seems to be a bit more subtle, whereas a shine makes the lips stand out more. I guess it helps where you're wearing a red lip to.
After the hype of the Apocalips, I continued to use them. At first I was a bit mixed on my opinion of them but I found that other colours worked better, and so I fell into a love frenzy with Big Bang, a gorgeous bright red.
I did however find that the Apocalips don't last as long as lipsticks do (they still last for hours on the lips) and so I started wearing a red lip underneath as a base.
Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Mysterious Red was one that called out to me. It's a contrast from the shine of the Apocalips but something that works great as a base. Don't be fooled by thinking that the Nars pencil will dry your lips out just because it's matte. Not all matte products are drying. This is actually really nice on the lips and is really long lasting too. Not to mention that it's a pencil, albeit a chunky one, it can be used as a lip liner of sorts before filling in with the Apocalips.

Anyway, it works for me and I thought I'd share this little information on here.

Do you have a favourite red lip combination?

  1. Beautiful shades, I absolutely love the apocalips its one of my favourite shades, so bright and wonderful!

  2. This is a lovely color!! I have never tried anything from NARS I really need too! Xx

  3. Your application is amazing, such gorgeous lip shape! I have been loving the Apocalips recently but find mine bleed slightly, might need a stronger base!

  4. The NARS lip pencil in Cruella is my ultimate favourite, I would forever recommend it! I had a hard time getting on with the Apocolips until the matte ones won my heart!
