I recently purchased some American goodies and paid in Dollars... in England?!
My cousin's husband is in the RAF, and they've recently travelled to the south of England from America to live here for three years while Joe works at one of the RAF bases.
We went down to visit them for a day as we hadn't seen them in about 2 years, and they took us into the RAF base to some of the shops in there.
As the RAF base is full of Americans and their families, it was full of American goodies. What's even weirder was that we had to get our money exchanged at the post office into US Dollars in order to purchase anything - it was like we were on holiday! (the exchange rate was really good too)
The shopping centre was full of American food, clothes, make up, technology etc - all at the American price, and without VAT!
If we'd have known that this heaven was within our reach, we would have exchanged more money (you couldn't pay by card). There was Estee Lauder and Clinique in there too at the cheaper US price (Double Wear foundation worked out to be about £20 cheaper), as well as Apple MacBooks which worked out to be about £400 cheaper!
I didn't get much, but I treated myself to some American 'candy', as well as some summery goodness from Bath and Body Works.
Not forgetting a 1.75l bottle of Jack Daniels which worked out to be £26! It's the biggest bottle of JD I've ever held, and whats more, they had a 3l one in the shop too!
I'm going back in Autumn, so I'll make sure I take more money with me so that I can buy alllll the make up! Who knew this was all here in England?
