Last week we decided to go on a little family day out as it's rare that we're all free on the same day. We fancied a trip to the beach so we headed off to Southport in the hope that the rain would stay away and we could eat fish and chips on the sea front.
Before the beach we decided to pop into a play area on the Ocean Plaza called Playtown which William absolutely loved. It was £6.50 entrance for him which included 2 hours of play, a cooked meal and a drink. Mike and I enjoyed ourselves just as much as William did as we took it in turns running around the area with him - I don't know where he gets the energy from!
The food from there was delicious. William opted for chicken nuggets and chips (which I took a few of) and they were the nicest chicken nuggets and chips that I've tasted in a while!
I'd recommend taking your little ones there if you're ever in the Southport area. They even cater for parties and you can get special characters to come like Buzz Lightyear and Dora the Explorer.
After Playtown we had a walk along the beach to collect shells. At this point it started raining so we had to take cover in McDonalds where we treated ourselves to ice cream. The Great British weather wasn't going to stop us enjoying ice cream!
When I was younger I remember spending every copper coin I could find in the house inside the amusement arcades so we went off in search of one. There's a fairly good one near the pier so we popped in there. As soon as we were inside William went crazy! He saw so many 'grab hand' machines where you could get a Minion from the Despicable Me films (which he LOVES) so Mike and I spend a fair amount of pound coins trying to get him one. Unfortunately we came away empty handed and decided to call it a day.
We picked up some fish and chips on the way home and then we all snuggled up on the sofa to watch some TV before bed.
I can't wait for summer as I'll have so much more free time, and William will be out of school too so I can take him on days out more (and back to the beach if it doesn't rain). We made the most of our free day and William said that he enjoyed it so that's good.
What do you get up to on your free days?
