REVIEW: Illamasqua Skin Base foundation

without SB vs with SB

Illamasqua Skin Base foundation £27 | here or here

I have been lusting after this for a good few months before I plucked up the courage to buy it. £27 is a little out of my price range for foundation - it's probably the most I've ever spent on one to be honest - but I have just received my student loan, so what better excuse is there?

I wanted a foundation that has good coverage, yet is buildable which this foundation achieves.
It claims to smooth, soften and condition your skin which it sort of does especially around the eyes. The foundation falls into the creases around my eyes but instead of making them stand out more, the SB make them look airbrushed and hardly there.
The same goes for any redness I have on my face - usually on my cheeks and around my nose. The Skin Base eliminates them without the need for concealer.
Also, if I wanted to build the coverage up a bit more I'd say that the SB could cover up my freckles too.

I'd say that the coverage would be a light to medium, but it is buildable. Comparing it to MAC's Studio Fix, i'd say that it's a lot lighter than that - but more conditioning as the Skin Base doesn't leave my skin feeling dry.
Also to note, I didn't use a primer the first time I wore this and it stayed on all day keeping the same amount of coverage.
I'm pretty happy with this purchase. I feel like you definitely get your moneys worth.

Have you tried the Skin Base foundation? Do you like Illamasqua products?

  5. I'm really wanting to try out one of Illamasqua's foundations but I'm looking for something with higher coverage, this might be good for weekday wear though when I'm wanting to keep things light! Thanks for the fab review :)

  6. I generally prefer foundations with a bit more coverage, but it's a beautiful finish and looks fabulous on your skin!
I don't mind paying quite a lot for foundation if they are worth it :)

  7. Illamasqua just opened up its counters where I am and will definitely pop by the counters to give this a swatch. Would you say the finish of the product leans towards a more matte finish?
