Lush BB Seaweed Fresh Face Mask: REVIEW

Lush BB Seaweed Fresh Face MaskFor softening, cooling and reducing redness.

Instructions

In the tub

Fresh mask

Dried mask

Ingredients

Lush BB Seaweed Fresh Face Mask £5.95/75g (buy here)

Lush describe it as:
"Honey, seaweed and aloe vera to soften and soothe. Olive oil to moisturise. Fresh rose petals and rose absolute to reduce redness. Rosemary oil to regenerate the skin. All of this held together with kaolin, ground almonds and millet flakes - so when you wash this off you are also gently exfoliating and removing dead skin."

I bought this from the store in the Trafford Centre in Manchester on a trip the other week with my friend Kirsty. As this is my first Lush face mask I asked the lady in the store to help me out. She was very friendly and after explaining what I was looking for she chose three face masks.
Now let me tell you, seeing the face masks in those silver bowls was not appealing considering I didn't know what to expect. I was used to pumping a small amount on to my hand rather than digging into a pot so I was a little taken aback by the sight. The lovely woman explained what each one did and the ingredients inside. After much thought I decided to go for the BB Seaweed one.

The thought of keeping this in the fridge with the rest of my food was quite odd! But the lady said that it was to keep it fresh as there are no preserves in the masks.
Putting the mask on your face is a little scary at first because the mask is so cold. The thought of applying it kind of puts me off, but you could always leave it out of the fridge for a bit so that it reaches room temperature.
The mask has both big and little bits of seaweed in which freaked me out (I don't know why!) I didn't put any of the larger bits on my face - I left them in the tub.
The mask goes on white and dries in a sort of clear-ish way. The bits of almonds and flakes become more visible once the mask has dried too.
Also, I don't know why I wasn't expecting it - but the mask dries hard. As in you can't move your face. I guess I should have realised this would happen as it is a mask after all but it just didn't cross my mind (duh!)
Once the mask has come off my skin is left feeling baby soft. The radiance side to it... I don't really see a huge difference, but then again I'm doing it at night where the lighting isn't too good.
I'd say that if you apply this mask twice a week like I do then it should last you around a month or so, maybe more depending upon how thick you layer it.

For just over £5 I would recommend this product - especially if you're a newbie to Lush masks like myself!
Oh and they really are freshly made! This one was made on the 20th of May, and I purchased it on the 21st!

Have you tried any of the Lush Fresh Face Masks?

Mani Monday: Floral Nails Tutorial

Happy Monday everyone! I thought I'd kick start the week with a new project 'Mani Mondays'. I love doing nail art, and although I'm not the best at doing them I thought I'd share a few designs and tutorials with you lot just in case you wanted to have a go.
This week I'm starting off with floral nails inspired by Cath Kidston. I wore a design like this back when I was in college and got loads of compliments, and being floral I thought they were summer appropriate.

You will need:
- clean nails or nail board
- white nail polish
- two shades of blue polish i.e. royal blue and a turquoise
- two shades of pink polish i.e. a light and dark pink
- green nail polish
- nail art pens or similar tools
- clear polish

Step One: Start with a white base. I think it's always easier when doing nail art to start with a nice clean white base. I guess it just makes the colours stand out more? I don't know but it works for me.
Please note, when I do nail art demos like this I like to work on nail boards like the one above. I think it's easier when taking pictures, rather than awkwardly taking a picture of my clawed hand. I also leave out the far left nails as they're too big for my thumbs.

Step Two: Paint the second and third finger in two different shades. I used Topshop Marine Scene on the index finger and a turquoise shade that is unbranded on the middle finger.

Step Three: On the thumb and little finger use the darker pink to paint broken circles. These can be any size and can be placed anywhere on the nail. I used a nail art pen but you can use whatever you feel comfortable with.
Also paint two large white spots on the index finger.

Step Four: Next, use the lighter pink and paint broken circles over the top of the darker ones. This doesn't have to be neat. Try to make sure that there's no white showing through the middle though.
Do the same design as the thumb and little finger on the white spots on the index finger.

Step Five: Apply the 'leaves' to the flower heads using a green nail polish. Again I used a nail art pen but the same effect can be achieved through normal nail polish and a nail art brush (available from eBay).

Step Six: Moving onto the middle finger, draw a circle and colour it in white. Add bumps to the outside of the circle to create a circular cloud. Add dots around this using a dotting tool (the pointy side of a cuticle stick or a cocktail stick would work fine with this). Your design should look something similar to the one above.

Finally: Repeat the same steps for applying a flower as you did on the other nails, onto the middle finger. Using the lighter pink, add stripes to the last remaining finger (sticky tape is good for getting straight edges if you want). Wait for it to dry and apply clear nail varnish over the top to set the design.
And there you have it, floral nails!

Did you find this tutorial useful? Are you going to attempt it?

SPACE.NK Haul inc GWP

Last week I saw Helen from thelovecatsinc mention on twitter about SPACE.NK doing a gift with purchase offer. I was intrigued so I checked it out.
I have never shopped at SPACE.NK before so checking out the site for the first time and seeing just exactly what they had to offer, I knew straight away that my bank card was going to be used.
The GWP offer was that if you spent £150 or more you'd get a goodie bag worth £190. Now, I really wanted this as I thought it was a fantastic deal. I had a little money saved that was meant to go towards driving lessons, but I just could not pass this up!
Admittidly I thought that spending £150 would be hard as I didn't even know where to start looking for products, but once I found something that I liked, there seemed to be a huge list pilling up in my 'basket'. I actually had to take a few items out as I was already into the £200+ range. I actually spent £161 which wasn't too far over the £150 mark so that did me fine.
Now I didn't just buy random crap, all the things that I bought I had been wanting for a while.

Bumble and Bumble Thickening Serum: I really hope this works. My hair has been getting thinner and thinner and I seem to be trying everything I can to make it thicker. I've heard B&B are good so I thought this serum might help me out in time for summer. Who doesn't want nice ling locks in summer ey?

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate: I know a few vloggers and bloggers have bought this and they all rave about how good it is. Being a coffee addict like myself means short sleeps and sometimes sleepless nights. I've never tried anything by Kiehl before but I always walk past their store in Liverpool One in awe.

REN Mayblossom T-Zone Control Cleansing Gel: Everyone plus their dog seems to rave about REN skincare, and I can see why! I always get breakouts on my oily t-zone, and having read a few reviews on this I thought it was in my skins best interest to invest in some REN. This gel removes dirt, unclogs pores and reduces the size of pores. My skin feels so clean afterwards!

REN Invisible Pores Detox Mask: Okay so I lied before when I said that everythign I bought has been on my wishlist for a while. This I never even knew of but when I purchased the REN gel, this porduct was reccommended as a 'works well with this' item. I haven't actually used this porduct yet but its on my list of things to do tonight. I love Sundays for face masks and wind down evenings.

Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser: My first Laura Mercier product! I was origionally going to get the silk creme foundation but as summer is coming (hopefully) I thought I'd opt for the tinted moisturiser instead as thats what I tend to wear more in summer. Picking a shade was hard, but I googled a few times and came up with a site that helps you pick your shade (here). I'm going to write a review on this so watch this space!

Nars Lipstick in 'Outsider': After purchasing my first Nars product a while ago (Nars blush in 'Oasis') and loving the results, I thought I would expand my collection and pick up two more Nars products. I like wearing natural looking colours on my lips in spring and summer as I go for a more natural looking make up anyway. This lipstick is great! It's a neutrally colour with little gold flecks in it to give your lips that little bit of sparkle - but not in your face sparkle! I'm writing a review on this which should be up next week so look out for that. I'm very please with my first Nars lipstick!

Nars velvet gloss lip pencil in 'Frivolous': mmm don't you love Nars packaging? So simple yet stylish. Umph. Anyway onto the product. I haven't used this yet but its a gorgeous pinky colour that looks like it would be moisturising. I have a few lip pencils like this (Clinique mainly) so I'm hoping this is just as good.

Above are the contents of the goodie bag, which all came in a SPACE.NK shopping tote bag.
So what came as GWP?

Diptyque Jasmin Candle 35g // StriVectin-EV Brightening Serum 7ml // Sai-Sei body cream 6ml // Living Proof hair primer 30ml // Radical serum 8ml // Sarah Chapman skin booster 5ml // Phyto volumizing spray 50ml // Rococo Nail Apparel in 'Flower Town' 14ml // Nuxe multi purpose dry oil 10ml // (boxed) Caudalie Premier Cru set

Rodial Glamtox cleansing balm 30ml // Phyto Shampoo 12ml // REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask 15ml // Jurlique Night Cream 5ml // By Terry brightening serum 4ml // Algenist pore corrector gel moisturiser 15ml

Eve Lom Cleanser w/cloth // Bloomsbury bath and shower cel and body cream

So there you have it. My SPACE.NK haul. I'm so glad that I did as I have loads of new products to try out :) !

Did you take advantage of this offer? // What do you think of the products I bought?

BirchBox: May 2013

While this months Glossy Box is a fun one to celebrate their 2nd birthday, Birchbox have taken a more serious note. This month Birchbox focus on breast cancer awareness.
Throughout May, Birchbox are supporting Fashion Targets Breast Cancer and are not only donating money every time someone new subscribes (click here) but they're also donating 30% of sales in their e-shop.
50,000 women a year are affected by breast cancer so it's something that, as women, we should have a knowledge of. I'm sure you've all heard the news this week about Angelina Jolie (here).
The best way to be breast aware is through some TLC. Touch, Look, Check. (more information here).

So what was in this months box?
Well I'm actually quite pleased with the contents this month. Thats the thing with beauty boxes though, some months are good and some are bad. Recently Birchbox have been good :)

OPI Nail Lacquer | Sample size 3.75ml
This is a coral shade (unsure of the name) which is perfect for spring/summer. I love coral accessories at the moment, and I think everyone else does too. The Zara tote bag seems to be popular at the moment.
I'm grateful for recieving this OPI sample as I do like their nail varnishes, but I just don't see the point in paying such a huge price for them.
Full size 15ml £9.79 from BeautyBay.com

Murad Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture for Eyes | Sample size 3.5ml
Even though this sample size is a tiny 3.5ml, I think I could make this last a while. The instructions say to pat a small amount around the eyes so I think I could make this last around a month?
Murad is a brand that I would say is high end, o it's obviously out of a students budget. If this product works though, then I'll be highly tempted to buy the full size as I've been looking for a good eye cream for agesssss.
Full size 15ml £57 from Marks & Spencer

Electric Hair Intensive Treatment Masque | Sample size 60ml
Well doesn't this smell divine! Oh I can't even describe it, it just smells nice. My hair is something that I always have trouble with. The roots get greasy really easily, but the ends get really dry and I get so many split ends despite hardly ever using heated tools.
Okay so you're meant to use this every 7 to 10 days, and leave it on for ten minutes before washing off. I think that I could get about a month and a half to two months treatment out of this 60ml sample. I have mid length hair, which is also really thin and damaged so hopefully this product will do some good. I look forward to trying this out.
Full size 200ml £23.50 from lookfantastic.com

Laura Geller Black Gel Eyeliner | Sample size 2.5g
I'm glad that this is a waterproof eyeliner as I find that they last so much longer. I'm not the best at applying gel liners as I can never get both eyes to stay the same, but I'll give it a go with this. I may even do a FOTD post featuring it in the future... if I can get the hang of applying it!
Laura Geller is a brand that I have tried in the past, but I've never activly gone out to buy it. I don't know why. I know a lot of other bloggers rave about the stuff so I think it's just my laziness or lack of money thats stopped me from purchasing Laura Geller. Still, I'm glad to have this product to try this month.
Full size 2.5g £24.50 from Birchbox eShop

Wei Pomegranate buffing beads | Sample size 0.5g
I've received Wei products in beauty boxes before, but I never know what to make of them as the sizes of the samples are always too small to properly use. The instructions say to blend the beads with a cleanser to create a mild exfoliant. It's a good idea, but would you just buy an exfoliant instead?
Full size 0.5g x20 £16 from space.NK

Kusmi Detox Tea | Sample size 20g
I've actually taken to tea a lot recently so this couldn't have come at a better time. This tea gets rid of all the toxins in your body to boost your energy levels and lowers stress levels. Great for those who are quitting cigarettes over summer, or who have their final exams.
I know that I'll be having a cup tonight to wind down.
Full size 24 tea bags for £18 from John Lewis

Don't forget that you can do your bit by subscribing to Birchbox here, where they'll donate £5 for every new subscriber to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer.

What do you think of this months Birchbox?

Recent Purchase: Tangle Teezer

My hair has never been really thick, and over the last month or so it's been getting thinner and thinner. I woke up the other day to a bed full of my own hair that had fallen out overnight, and then later when I washed my hair clumps were coming out. Well this obviously wasn't good. After a slight panic attack I found out that hair naturally becomes thinner over time, and things like colouring and heat treatments can speed up the process - good bye straighteners!
I've started eating more vegetables and I'm now taking some tablets to improve hair strength but I felt think that wasn't enough. I've seen loads of vloggers and bloggers raving on about this product so I thought I should give it a go considering my hair situation.

The Original Tangle Teezer

The Tangle Teezer is designed to fit into the palm of your hand. This is a bit weird at first when brushing my hair as I'm so used to using brushes with handles, but once you get the hang of it then it's fine. I just went for the original one when I was buying it. It's a bright pink colour so it's hard to misplace! There's loads of other colours though.

I tried so hard to get a good shot of the bristles so I hope you can see it okay. The bristles are two different lengths - some small and some long. This, combined with the flexibility of the bristles helps to stop pulling and snagging when brushing you hair. I've only been using it for just over two weeks but I have noticed a huge difference in the amount of hair that's left in the brush after use - there's virtually nothing compared to using standard brushes!

I bought the Tangle Teezer from feelunique.com and received a free sample of Benefit's 'Fake Up'. I was really happy that I'd got this as I've been wanting to try it out for ages! I don't actually own a concealer -shock!- and I was really debating buying this when it first came out but I didn't know if it would be an over hyped product and would in fact be really disappointing. So I'm looking forward to trying this :)

How do you tame your hair?
